Here is another article regarding the $40.8 million the city was awarded for 'renewal work'.
I can't tell if this will actually be beneficial. What will all that vacant space be used for? Commercial farming? Will Detroit replace it's factories with agriculture industry? Are those dashed lines public transit routes? Light rails?

not quite, lafayette park is pretty heavily populated, but everything else is pretty desolate.
the agricultural use of vacant city land is interesting to me and generally sounds like a good idea, but i have yet to hear of a solid business plan that actually benefits the residents of this godforsaken town.
I'm not sure if you have heard of the hantz farm plan, but it's along these lines. except for the fact that it's backed by a multi-millionaire investment banker from farmington, and he's trying to get the land for free from the city. i have a number of issues with his plan, but the basic idea itself is good. |
